Canyon Lake Gorge – A Neighboring Geological Wonder
Canyon Lake Gorge, one of the Texas Hill Country’s most unique landmarks, is located only four minutes drive (2.1 Miles) from Rio Guadalupe Resort in New Braunfels. Carved by the flood of 2002, the Canyon Lake Gorge is a must-see for recreationalists, conservationalists, budding geologists, and nature enthusiasts alike!
The Canyon Lake Gorge is a real-life classroom where visitors can experience the geology of the Texas Hill Country first-hand through visible faults, fractures and seeps in the cretaceous limestone as well as fossils and dinosaur footprints 110 million years old. Waterfalls, springs, and limestone layers from an ancient sea tell the story of the land.
See the natural wonder for yourself! The 64-acre Gorge offers activities for all ages including:
- Yoga in the Gorge: 45 minute yoga class + self-guided hike
- Hiking Trails: Purchase a trail pass in the Visitor Center for a scenic hike along the north rim or take a stroll on the Nature Trail.
- Guided Tours: Explore limestone layers from an ancient sea, perfectly preserved fossils, waterfalls and springs where the Trinity Aquifer is exposed, and much more.
- Educational Tours and Outdoor Classroom: Guided tours are available for home school groups, elementary schools, youth organizations, and college students.
