Rio Guadalupe Resort opened as River Valley Campground in 1977 with the same two partners and owners as today. The property was overgrown with cedar and mesquite trees, had no utilities or roads but had a lot of potential. Years earlier, the mostly German citizens used the riverfront as a park and for a short time, the property was the site of a community center called Wahalla.
After months of hand clearing, road work and construction of a small storage building which served as an office, RV hookups were installed along the tree line overlooking the Guadalupe. A store/office building was constructed in 1978. Since then, 25 cabins have been added along with RV hook-ups, an event center and the largest swimming pool on River Road. A new office and store was built in 2012 and allowed us to double our inventory so come see us for new Guadalupe River clothing and souvenirs.
